NAWIC Greetings!
The very essence of leadership is its purpose. And the purpose of leadership is to accomplish a task. That is what leadership does–and what it does is more important than what it is or how it works.

President’s Letter – January 2012
Happy New Year!
Chapter 99 really hit the ground running this month.
Shawna Alvarado, CIT CBT, and Pat McDonald, CCA CIT CBT, led an exciting Leadership Training session at the Builder’s Exchange on January 7th. Thank you, ladies! The morning began with a team building exercise, followed by review of the Chapter committees and future/current leadership training. After lunch, the session concluded with Parliamentarian procedures and a fun game. These Leadership Training sessions never cease to deliver. I’ve been to several and there’s something for everyone to gain from the wealth of knowledge available.
Our annual Block Kids event is being held on Sunday, January 22nd from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm at the Santa Clara City Library. This event took little time to gain participants; we reached the maximum of 30 kids in no time! Shawna Alvarado, CIT CBT, is still looking for judges. If you are interested in helping the day of, please send her an email, or even a reminder that you will be there, so all goes smoothly and they have enough help.
The January dinner meeting is being held on Wednesday, January 25th at 6:30 pm at the Bold Knight in San Jose. Our featured Speaker, Jennifer Wycisk from Turner Construction, will review Jobsite and Workplace Safety. This is bound to be a great and informative meeting!
The February dinner meeting is being held on February 22, 2012 at 6:30 pm; location is forthcoming. Prior to the dinner meeting, we will be touring the Alliance Occupational Medicine facility in Santa Clara from 4:30-5:30 pm. Our speaker that evening will be Dr. Acharya from Alliance Occupational Medicine and she will be giving a medical professional’s perspective from the time a patient arrives through the evaluation and signs of potential medical fraud.
WIC Week is March 4-10, 2012. Committee Chairwomen Shawna Alvarado, CIT CBT, and Rachel Stroup have something fun slated for every day of the week. The tentative schedule is a Chili/Clam Chowder Cook-Off with partnering associations, Wine & Cheese Mixer, Proclamation Day/Wear your NAWIC Gear, Spotlight Awards Gala, NAWIC Expo, Bowling Night, Hands on Workshop. During WIC Week, NAWIC Guam will also be chartering their Chapter. Please remember to get your business cards in to Rachel Stroup for the business card holder that Pat McDonald, CCA CIT CBT, will be presenting at their Chartering event.
May is not far off and we will be hosting and celebrating our Regions’ 50th Anniversary at Forum in beautiful Monterey. There are some Committee slots to fill, so please attend the next Forum meeting at 6:00 pm on January 25th (prior to the dinner meeting) to get involved.
New Year Blessings to all,
